Hello, I've been a patron of Ardmore Milkboy for about a year now. I come a few times a month for your great coffee and food. When you instituted the wait staff policy in June I started having a lot more problems with my orders. When I rely on the wait staff for service, the service is slow or inconsistent. This appears to be because I have only seen one waiter or waitress who may be covering as many as 10 or 15 tables. I stopped doing table service because I never got my food or coffee. Instead I began ordering at the counter for takeout. When I do that, my coffee order is consistently lost and I have to ask a second time for my coffee. I bring this up not as a complaint about your staff, but the service rules in general. If you want to have table service you need to have enough servers to cover all your tables and a system so the kitchen and the coffee counter can keep track of orders. From the coffee counter side, it seems like a simple ticketing system or "writing name and coffee on the cup" would prevent your servers from losing track of the orders. I love your coffeeshop and wish to remain a patron, but the problems the change to table service has incurred makes it difficult to come back.

Jamie and Tommy,

The pervasive ignorance in our society is really sickening. I am constantly astounded at our lazy people are that repeatedly listen to half of any story and then decide they are expert enough to comment. There is no common sense at work anymore.

People have no idea what it costs to run a small business, much less a non-chain/non-franchise retail business. They don't think about what a successful business adds to a neighborhood.

I think about that corner you occupy and the art gallery that was there for so many years before you. How much business did it really bring to Ardmore? How many people did they employ? Were they really good neighbors or did people just assume, because it was called Fine Arts Gallery, that is was an upstanding business with a positive contribution to the community.

The corner has a life to it now. The windows are open and show an inviting set up inside. The staff is cheerful, funny, helpful and engaged in their work. The food is great as is the coffee. The like the small business, cozy neighborhood set up. I like the music and the artist you bring in to perform.

The unions in Philly have a long history of bullying tactics and shame on the locals who bought into the picketing without thinking about some of the tactics used by the unions to yank business away from non-union shops. More businesses should stand up to the unions and not allow them to dictate who can do what in Philadelphia. Stand strong...

And I will continue to patronize your shop and encourage my friends to do the same. You guys are great...don't stop being Tiggers!!

This union's actions prove one thing: they only care about themselves. This thug mentality of 'we're going to try and hurt your business if you don't choose to hire us at a higher cost to you' is very troubling and is flat out disgraceful.

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I work in Ardmore and you have gained one new customer in myself as a result of this protest. Stay strong and make sure people know the truth.

The Union is blatantly violated Federal Labor Laws. You can have the National Labor Relations Board seek an injunction against the Union from picketing your Ardmore store. You can also seek damages against the Union for any lost profits as a result of their picketing. Drop me an email if you would like to discuss this further.

Good luck and do not be intimated by these guys. The law and PUBLIC OPINION is on your side.

Hey Guys,

Just read the article in the Inquirer. I can't help but think that for every one person like me that sends their support through email here there are at least ten that share the same thoughts. I like your approach of combating with humor. Maybe you should combat with people of your own picketing with catchy phrases about the union picketers????

With all the negative press unions have been getting in the news lately (WI and now in OH & IN) people see the strong-arm tactics of unions and the intimidation they use and it is not received well. I have no doubt that even in a strong union area like PA people will see your struggle and public opinion will fall on your side.

I live in N.E. PA but we will be stopping for a coffee next time we're down your way!

This country was not founded on unions but upon entrepreneurs. I belong to a union, but respect your right to do business anywhere. Lancaster Avenue has always been a great scene and you are only making it better! Keep the coffee hot, boys!!
